Rare, out-of-print and hard to find copy of McDonald's 1985 paperback in fair condition. [Little Lane Bookshop]
Written in 1985, then Irish Times journalist Frank McDonald's account of the interests and players at work as large chunks of historic Georgian Dublin were slowly torn down in the 60s and 70s, replaced by the dreams of modernist planners and the ambitions of local entrepreneurs, politicians, planners, and bureaucrats - often acting in unison. It also accounts of forces that tried to save the city from rampant development, and what they managed to save and achieve.
